Without Excuse

Visible nature/creation of the world reveals God's invisible qualities/attributes. His eternal power and divine nature have been clearly seen and understood from what He has made (poiema in Greek, from which we get the word "poem"). God's omnipotence, immutability, and infinite wisdom are exhibited in creation which is God's work of art. "The universe is a poem about God." (John Piper) Every day we have an opportunity to notice and acknowledge God, give thanks to Him, and rejoice in Him. Every day! God is neither dead nor hidden. God has made His existence evident to all people through His creation. How can anyone witness the majestic beauty of God's glorious handiwork and not marvel at God, the Creator? In short, anyone who has ever looked at the starry night sky or at a radiant sunrise or a beautiful sunset, has no excuse whatsoever to not believe in God. God makes it plain and available for all to see; therefore, everyone is held responsible/accountable to God as how they respond to His gracious revelation. We can choose to acknowledge and worship the Creator or we can refuse to acknowledge and worship Him. We are made to worship something (if not God, then it's idols which come in many forms). Even people who have never had an opportunity to hear the gospel are without excuse because they, too, have seen God's creation which is an obvious testimony to His existence and character. If a person responds to God's general revelation in nature by acknowledging Him and seeking Him, God will provide ways for that person to hear the gospel. He gives this precious promise in Jeremiah 29:13, "You will seek Me and find Me when you seek Me with all your heart.

Sadly, despite God's clear revelation, some people still like to make excuses because they try to avoid the truth/suppress the truth. They are not willing to submit to God; they want to live as they're pleased...to do whatever they want...to live for selves...to indulge themselves in worldly pleasures. They don't want to give that up. Clearly, no one can stand before God on the Judgment Day and claim that God didn't make His existence plain enough. Those who do not turn to God are certainly guilty for they willfully ignore what they might know and ought to know about God. "Excuses are the cradle... that Satan rocks men off to sleep in!" (D.L. Moody)

"Atheism is so senseless. When I look at the solar system. I see the earth at the right distance from the sun to receive the proper amounts of heat and light. This did not happen by chance." (Isaac Newton)

"Atheists express their rage against God although in their view He does not exist." (C.S. Lewis)

"God has never left himself without a witness. His existence and perfections have ever been so manifested that His rational creatures are bound to acknowledge and worship Him as the true and only God." (Charles Hodge)
"Nature is an unlimited broadcasting station, through which God speaks to us every hour, if we only will tune in." (George Washington Carver)

"The treasures of the crystal snows,
And all the wonders nature shows,
Speak of a mighty Maker’s hand

That all in love and wisdom planned." (Bosch)
