"This matter arose because some false believers had infiltrated our ranks to spy on the freedom we have in Christ Jesus and to make us slaves. We did not give in to them for a moment, so that the truth of the gospel might be preserved for you." (Galatians 2:4-5)
These false believers ("Judaizers") insisted upon circumcision as necessary for salvation. In essence, they lost sight of grace and made believers slaves to the Mosaic Law. They knew nothing about liberty/freedom in Christ because they still maintained that one had to keep the Jewish law in order to be saved. The true gospel proclaims freedom from bondage to the Law (the yoke of ceremonial law).

Paul, other apostles, and elders did not give in to the false believers; they stood firm in the truth of the gospel and did everything to preserve it. We must do the same. Stand up to preserve the truth of the gospel!
