Careless Word

"But I tell you that everyone will have to give account on the day of judgment for every empty word they have spoken. For by your words you will be acquitted, and by your words you will be condemned.” (Matthew 12:36-37)

We are held accountable for our words. This verse is a great reminder for us to think before we speak.
T --is it TRUE?
H --is it HELPFUL?
I -- is it INSPIRING?
N --is it NECESSARY?
K --is it KIND?

Careless words are vain, empty, idle, thoughtless, malicious words that hurt and harm. Sins of the tongue are vast and various; they are easily committed. Let us examine whether our words honor or dishonor God. Knowing when to speak, what to say, how to say, and when to be silent is a sign of spiritual maturity. Use words with restraint. We must keep a tight rein on our tongue. We don't have to say every thought that comes to our mind. Instead, pause and confess about bad thoughts/attitudes immediately. Choose and use your words thoughtfully and carefully for God's glory. Keep your hearts, mind, and lips pure. Words reveal the true condition of the heart and are used to gauge a person's spiritual condition.

"When words are many, sin is not absent, but he who hold his tongue is wise." (Proverbs 10:19)
"He who guards his lips guards his life, but he who speaks rashly will come to ruin." (Proverbs 13:3)
"The tongue of the wise commends knowledge, but the mouth of the fool gushes folly." (Proverbs 15:2)
"The tongue that brings healing is a tree of life, but a deceitful tongue crushes the spirit." (Proverbs 15:4)
"He who guards his mouth and his tongue keeps himself from calamity." (Proverbs 21:23)

Prayer: Heavenly Father, please forgive me for every careless word that has come out of my mouth. Please set a guard over my mouth and keep watch over the door of my lips (Psalm 141:3). May my words bring glory to You and draw others to You! In Jesus' Name, I pray. Amen.
