The Mouth Speaks What the Heart is Full of

"The good man brings good things out of the good stored up in his heart--and the evil man brings evil things out of the evil stored up in his heart. For out of the overflow of his heart, his mouth speaks!" (Luke 6:45)

Our words (and actions) reveal the condition of our heart and our character. What comes out of our mouth is, in fact, a heart issue. A kind heart produces kind words. A loving heart produces gracious words. A critical heart produces critical words. An ungrateful heart produces grumbling words.  Angry, harsh words come out of a heart that is full of anger but lacks self-control. Mean, rude, & disrespectful words, lies, gossips, blasphemy, slanders, cursing, cussing are all issues of the heart.

"The heart is the fountain, words are the streams." (Matthew Henry)
A pure fountain will produce pleasant streams while a polluted fountain will produce unpleasant streams.

"Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths--but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen." (Ephesians 4:29)

"Nor should there be obscenity, foolish talk or coarse joking, which are out of place--but rather thanksgiving." (Ephesians 5:4)

Prayer: Lord, please purify my heart and mind. Please get rid of anything that is evil and selfish. Please fill my heart with Your truths and love by the power of Your Holy Spirit and make my words reflect grace, mercy, goodness, kindness, gentleness, wisdom, faith, hope, and love.
