A king who rules/governs his country/his people with steadfast love (mercy) and faithfulness (truth) will be secure on his throne for a long time because his subjects will love him and remain loyal to him. People want loving, kind, merciful, truthful, faithful, promise-keeping leaders. The kings or leaders who are cruel, harsh, and dishonest drive their followers into hatred, despair, disloyalty, and rebellion.
The best example of leadership is Jesus Christ. Lead like Jesus who is full of grace and truth (John 1:14b)! "Do not withhold Your mercy from me, Lord; may Your love and faithfulness always protect me." (Psalm 40:11)
No matter what position we're in, love and faithfulness should characterize our lives. "Let love and faithfulness never leave you; bind them around your neck, write them on the tablet of your heart. Then you will win favor and a good name in the sight of God and man." (Proverbs 3:3)
