Advent Day 16: Walk in the Light

- John wrote this Epistle so that others may share his feeling of fellowship and joy in Christ and with one another.
- Light represents God's truth, righteousness, purity, goodness, and holiness. Darkness represents evil, sin, ignorance, wickedness, and the lost world.
- God is Light! Light is God's very nature. He is perfectly holy and true. He alone can guide us out of the darkness of sin.
"Walk in darkness"--walking in sin/flesh, out of the will of God Who is Light. We cannot have fellowship with God and still walk in darkness. The Light reveals what is right and wrong; we must respond to that light continually. Walking in the Light reveals our sins; thus we need constant cleansing. Sanctification is an ongoing process. To claim that we belong to Christ but then to continue living for ourselves and walking in darkness (evil and immorality) is hypocrisy. We cannot love God and court sin or the world at the same time.
- "Look, the Lamb of God, Who takes away the sin of the world!" (John 1:29b) Jesus has paid the penalty for our sins and His blood has purified us.
