When I Survey the Wondrous Cross

Note: Please turn off my music playlist at the bottom of this page before starting the videos.

This is one of my favorite hymns.  It was written by Isaac Watts (1674-1748).  In the top video, it was sung by Kathryn Scott.  The video below shows The Wonderful Cross, a different version of this hymn with added refrain lyrics by Chris Tomlin and J.D. Walt and arrangement by Jesse Reeves and Chris Tomlin.  I like both versions :).

"But God demonstrates His own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us." Romans 5:8
"May I never boast except in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ, through which the world has been crucified to me, and I to the world." Galatians 6:14
...Love so amazing, so divine, demands my soul, my life, my all.  I totally agree with Isaac Watts!

I love both versions as well. I've sung this song for years and years, but to hear the word "survey" the wondrous cross really struck me tonight...to survey, to really take notice of the details, of the calculations, to see the important of...do I really "survey" the cross, or do I take it for granted? Great song...thanks for the refreshing of the old and the introduction to the new!

God bless,
Mary
